Class time will consist of explanation of various exercises, and then a group application of each exercise. Students may also engage in group discussion about difficulties, personal goals, and ideas about how their sound, and how they'd like to improve it. Students will take turns in class applying the exercises and discussing as a group, what worked, what didn't and what they noticed as they performed each exercise. Students will also engage in basic mindfulness to be aware of their body movements, and how they influence their sound and technique. There will be brief descriptions of how and why each exercise works, and what part of bowing technique it targets. Students will need to have their violin and bow ready to work at the beginning of the class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn a variety of exercises, including specific exercises for bow hold, bow speed, and pressure.
Students will learn how to care for their bodies while the get the most out of their bow, learning how to use their arm and wrist in healthy and effective ways. Students will also learn to practice mindfulness to help them become aware of the interaction between their body and their instrument.
Students will learn the importance of bowing, why and how it makes a difference in your sound and performance.

Supply List
A handout may be provided for students to take for further use. Students should come prepared with their violin and bow ready to use, and a notebook handy to take down notes.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
