Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Intermediate Level
This class is perfect for those who have an upcoming audition at school or for their community or youth orchestra, and for both those who are auditioning for the first time and those who have auditioned before and want to improve their orchestra rank in their next audition.

This class will be very interactive and the content can be adjusted for students who already have a list of their specific audition requirements. I will demonstrate all skills on my violin and provide notated examples on the screen. Students should be prepared to play their instruments often, with camera on. Students who have specific excerpts or other materials they need help with should be prepared to share the excerpts on their device screen or send the images to me before class.

Day 1: introductions, specific audition requirements, scales and arpeggios
Day 2: solos and excerpts, showing confidence
Day 3: standing out in sightreading, skills that give higher ranking
Day 4: maximizing your strengths, making a plan for skills based on audition date, mock auditions (optional)

The main goal of this class is to encourage and empower each student to do their best in their next audition. I work to create an encouraging environment. Mistakes are part of learning especially with the violin! Auditions can be challenging and this class is designed to create a safe place to make musical mistakes and grow.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music from California State University Northridge
I have a Bachelor's in music education and have taught both in the school setting and as a private violin teacher for nearly 25 years. I have auditioned many times over the years, starting when I was a teenager auditioning for orchestras, followed by university auditions, and auditions afterwards for local orchestras. I have also been on the teacher's end, listening to auditions, as well as preparing students for many types of auditions, including school orchestras, community orchestras, honor orchestras, and university entrance auditions.
