Welcome to Violin Club 101: Learn How to Play Violin With Friends! This is a six-week course where students are introduced to the violin in a fun group setting. Learners do not need any prior knowledge of music or violin- this course is designed for total beginners! In Violin Club 101 participation and group discussion is encouraged but not necessary. If your child is introverted or shy they will still benefit from this class by observing those around them and following the directives given. My approach incorporates lots of interactive games and exercises to introduce students to the instrument, and concepts of rhythmic and tonal awareness. These include but are not limited to "clap back", "rhythm words", and "write your own song." Parents are expected to be involved in helping students tune their instrument before the start of class. I will send an instructional video about tuning prior to the start of the class. The curriculum will also be suitable for beginner viola- violists encouraged to apply! General Topics Covered: ♫ Proper Playing Position ♫ Holding the Violin and Bow ♫ The Names of the Violin and Bow Parts and Their Functions (ex. Learning Goals
At the end of the class, students will be able to:
♫ Hold the instrument and bow with proper position and posture
♫ Identify and perform 5 standard rhythms with open strings
♫ Write each of the open strings on the music staff in treble clef
♫ Write and perform an original song using the 5 standard rhythms and their open strings
♫ Play the "Hot Cross Buns" song
Students will come out of the class having gained an appreciation for music making and the violin. They will have a basic understanding of how a violin is held and played, and what it means to read music on a staff. They will have been exposed to several ways a violin can be performed in pop and classical contexts. This class will adequately prepare them for Violin Party: A Group Violin Class with Friends and/or the Private 1:1 Violin Lessons With a Professional Symphony Musician!
