Students will introduce themselves and review classroom expectations. Then students will view Van Gough Sunflowers, and discuss what they see focusing on the Elements of Art. (Color, Value, Line, Shape, and Tone). Lastly, students will use oil pastels and watercolors to create their own sunflowers in the style of Vincent Van Gough. Students will begin their drawing by creating a vase and choosing a pattern to color it in. From there students will draw a horizon line separating the background from the foreground. Students will create another pattern for the foreground and then use traditional colors to create their sunflowers with oil pastels. To finish, student will select one color to paint the background, finishing their artwork. Students will learn through group discussion, demonstration, and constructive feedback. Class time is structured to give students teacher-led instruction and independent work time. Students will walk away with a better understanding of Vincent Van Gough, Elements of Art, and finished work of art!
Learning Goals
Students will have a greater understanding about Vincent Van Gough and be able to identify and describe the Elements of Art. Students will also be able to create their own sunflower drawings.

I am offering this class because I am an Art Teacher who loves inspiring students to think outside of the box and tap into their creative side. Students can easily learn how to implement elements like color and shape into their own artwork using his style. Students also walk away with a better understanding of how something like sunflowers can look different depending upon who creates it .
