Is your learner a gamer? In this four-week course we will take our love of gaming and turn it to writing! Learners will practice and learn writing skills while engaging in a topic they already love!

US Grade 3 - 5
In this course we will use your favorite video games as a way to hone our creative writing skills. We will get our 'creative juices' flowing by playing a writing game. We will then create a character and setting, and explore how we use that character to advance a plot and develop a theme. I will teach a 'mini-lesson' and then allow learners to practice that skill in the class. Meetings will follow this order, however, this is subject to change as the learners' needs dictate. Meeting 1- Video Game Roll-A-Story and Character Creation Meeting 2- Finish Character and Create Plot Map Meeting 3- Writing Day- Focus on Introduction Meeting 4- Writing Day- Focus on Conclusion At the end of this four-week class you will have a completed story based on your favorite video game! Writers may choose to complete a comic-style story.
Learning Goals
Students will learn pre-writing skills such as character development, story organization, setting, theme, and plot development. They will learn how to hook the reader, focus and elaborate on elements that advance the story, and conclude in a way that satisfies the reader.

Parental Guidance
This class relies on video games, and some video games do include weapons, war, and other sensitive topics. Incorporating these elements into a story to advance the plot is something I will accept, however I will not allow using these elements just for the sake of using them. I will also ask students who incorporate sensitive elements to give a content warning before sharing, or ask that they only share with me. Any content that is concerning will be passed on to the adult who enrolled the learner.
Supply List
Learners will need a set of dice for the first lesson, and paper and a writing utensil for every lesson. I will provide all handouts.
