Welcome to Video Editing for Beginners! This is a FLEX class, meaning you can watch the lessons at your own pace. Students will learn how to edit and create their own videos using the free video editing software, Davinci Resolve. This software has all the tools needed to create dynamic and visually exciting videos, and you will learn how to use the basic functions in order to build up your video from start to finish. More and more young people are getting into video editing, creating projects for home, school, for youtube, and for many other reasons. Having the right software is important, but it can be confusing when you don't know where to begin. This course will take you step by step through creating a video project from scratch. Here's what you'll learn over the 8 weeks: Lesson one: Tour of DaVinci, inserting media, and basic editing. Lesson two: Inserting audio, sourcing free music, and basic audio editing. Lesson three: Inserting and animating text, using basic colour shapes. Lesson four: Editing the timing of our video clips - slow-mo and speeding up. Lesson five: Editing the colours in our clips - back and white, blurring, and brightening. Lesson six: Introduction to the FUSION page Lesson seven: Special effects #1 - dynamic zoom, advanced shapes, and overlays Lesson eight: Special effects #2 - in-built special effects Each lesson you will follow along with me as I edit a video, using your own video clips to create a project of your own. Over the 8 weeks, each student will complete a video project, putting into practise the skills learned each week, and submit this at the end of the course. STUDENT-TEACHER INTERACTION Each lesson, students can submit a mini project, lasting 3-5 minutes, and upload this to the classroom. The project will consist of the elements learned in that week's lesson, either using the supplied video clips, or video clips of their own.. Students will watch each other's mini videos, comment on each other's mini videos, and offer ideas for improvement. This is an important part of the learning process, as it allows students to see what creative ideas are possible. In addition, I will comment on the videos, and will also offer suggestions on how to improve. Students are encouraged to ask questions in the classroom, and learn from each other's ideas.

I'm a qualified teacher, experienced in teaching English, History, Music, and Art. I home educated my two children, who are now at university, and I have taught in mainstream schools, and in Special-Ed schools.
I have also taught piano, guitar, singing, and music theory, taking students through grade examinations.
I am experienced in teaching the British GCSEs, and through home-schooling, I taught my own children using American curriculum. I teach Language Arts, English Literature and Language, Creative Writing, Poetry - both writing, and reading, and many other fantastic and interesting topics.
I teach writing skills using the Writing Revolution techniques, and have seen students improve their writing skills rapidly using some of the techniques applied.
In addition, I worked as a graphic designer for 10 years, working from home, and offer graphic design and video editing classes, using Adobe Creative Suite, DaVinci Resolve, and soon, Affinity creative suite.
Growth Mindset is very important in my classes, and I encourage it in all learners - Growth Mindset is the belief that even if you can't do something or don't understand something, then you CAN learn how to do it or understand it. Growth Mindset says "I can't do it YET, but I can learn." Learning happens through making mistakes, and then modifying your approach, changing what you do, to improve. I encourage all learners to try, and to feel comfortable making mistakes, because that's how we all learn.
