In December of 1776 George Washington commanded an army that was short on ammunition, food, and supplies. Additionally, the terms of many of the militiamen were due to expire. The British had driven the Continental Army south into Pennsylvania. The Colonies were losing the war. Washington made a crucial decision; attack the Hession force of 1,400 in the city of Trenton, New Jersey. To do so, Washington would need to coordinate his army plus forces under Generals Cadwalader and Ewing. How...
Students will learn about the hardships the continental Army faced during the Battle of Trenton and why it was a pivotal battle. Students will learn that without George Washington's decisive leadership, the American Revolution may have been lost.
