Class experience
In this class, learn about the fashions that Queen Victoria made famous during her reign of 1837 until 1901, and the lifestyle and etiquette that went with it, plus some fun facts about Victorian fashion that still linger today! This class will cover the ways in which fashion changed over Queen Victoria's reign. We will look at examples of clothing worn by men, women and children from the upper and lower classes and discuss how the differences in lifestyle and gender expectations influenced...
Students will trace the evolution of fashion during Queen Victoria's reign. Students will identify key events in the world that influenced clothing during the 19th century. Students will connect clothing styles with ideas of social status and gender expectation. Students will create their own Victorian-inspired outfit.
I have been teaching fashion design and history for over 5 years. I love looking at historical events through the lens of clothing because of its connections to gender and social class and world history!
Fashion bodies (croquis) that I will provide.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
We will be discussing Victorian underwear and the lives of people in cities during the Industrial Revolution, which can be unpleasant.
