Class Experience

Future Vets: A Self-Paced Semester in Veterinary Science is designed for learners who dream of becoming veterinarians, vet techs, or simply love animals and want to understand how to care for them. In this 16-week self-paced course, students will explore animal anatomy, disease prevention, diagnostics, and the science behind veterinary medicine.

This course provides a deep dive into both small and large animal care, equipping students with real-world knowledge in a way that’s engaging, age-appropriate, and fun. Each week, learners will explore new topics through interactive videos, guided assignments, and virtual “Vet Labs.” The course concludes with a final project where students present a veterinary case study using their knowledge gained throughout the course.

Whether your learner is passionate about pets, livestock, or wildlife, this course builds the foundation for further studies in animal science, biology, and health careers.

This class introduces students to the core concepts of veterinary science, including:

- Careers in veterinary medicine
- Animal body systems and their functions
- Common diseases and how they are diagnosed and treated
- Preventative care like vaccines, nutrition, and parasite control
- Animal behavior, handling, and physical exams
- Diagnostic tools used by real veterinarians

How is the class structured?

Each week includes:

- A pre-recorded video lesson or narrated slideshow (10–20 mins)
- Guided notes or a printable worksheet
- An interactive activity (diagram, quiz, case study, or matching task)
- A short weekly quiz
- An optional hands-on “Vet Lab at Home” activity (safe and simple)
- A discussion question to encourage student interaction
- Feedback from the instructor on submitted work

How will you teach?

Lessons are delivered through engaging, student-friendly videos and narrated slideshows that simulate a classroom experience. Visuals, storytelling, and real-world examples are used to bring the material to life. I combine science content with veterinary practice, so learners understand not just *what* happens in the body, but *how* veterinarians apply that knowledge every day.

Teaching Style:

My teaching style is clear, friendly, and supportive. I blend academic science with real-world applications, using visuals and stories to spark curiosity. I want students to feel like they’re part of a real “vet school” experience—without pressure, but with plenty of room to grow.

Learner Interaction:

Although this is a self-paced course, students will still receive:

- Personalized feedback on assignments and final projects
- Encouragement and discussion responses via the Outschool classroom
- Instructor answers to any questions posted
- Optional extra credit “Vet Lab” activities with instructor review

Students are encouraged to post their thoughts, share final projects, and ask questions in the classroom space. I regularly check in to support their progress and answer questions throughout the semester.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Biology/Biological Sciences from Western Governors University
I have over 10 years of hands-on experience in the veterinary field, including working in veterinary clinics, managing cattle livestock operations, and selling animal health products. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences Secondary Education, and I’m currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Veterinary Science, allowing me to bring both scientific knowledge and real-world experience into every lesson I teach.

My teaching background spans both in-person and online settings. I’ve taught middle and high school biology, animal science, and veterinary science in traditional classroom environments, and I currently teach a variety of live and self-paced courses on Outschool—including equine management, livestock medicine, ecosystems, and introductory geology. I specialize in making science engaging and relatable through real-world examples, storytelling, and interactive learning.

I have extensive experience working with youth through both academic instruction and agricultural education programs. I’ve worked with learners ages 8–18 in classroom, homeschool, and extracurricular settings, and I’m passionate about helping future vets and animal lovers discover how science applies to real animals and real careers.

Whether I’m walking students through how to take an animal’s vital signs or explaining the immune system using farm scenarios, I aim to create a supportive and inspiring environment for every learner.
