Class Experience
This class introduces students to veterinary science. ***Please note that I prefer students to have their video cameras on during the class. Also, there will be intermittent video clips from Youtube to visually explain the topic. Vicky the Vet by Jo Litchfield and Felicity Brooks can be purchased however it isn't required for this class. Day 1 Check-In Students will listen to the story Vicky the Vet p. 2-5. We will discuss the schedule, the patient rooms, and the assessment of the animal....
The goals are for students to learn what the life of a vet entails and to introduce them to vocabulary through the story Vicky the Vet.
My degree is in Biology. I have taught 4H Vet Science and also done Vet Pet Summer Camps at a local private school. My joy is educating children who are interested in this field of veterinary science.
Students are asked to color different pictures. There are vocabulary words they can copy if they want. The students will receive a coloring book after their first class with teacher Pat. Each day they will be assigned a page to color. They also have parts of the cat, dog, snake, and rat coloring sheets. It includes a cut and paste activity showing the parts to the stethoscope, too. This is optional.
Students should have a pencil or pen, color pencils and writing tablet to practice writing vocabulary words.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students will be orally assessed by various questions from material we learned throughout this course.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
I may refer to a 2-3 minute video. I will show a preserved rat and cat skull. These may be sensitive issues for young children that may be afraid of skeletons. Also, preserved worms, too.
