This 6 week book club will based on 2 of the books in the “Vet Volunteers” book series. Learners will be assigned a certain number of chapters for reading PRIOR to class, so access to the books from home or the library is required. Using the “flipped classroom” model, learners will read the chapters for the week and come to class ready to discuss their thoughts on what is going on in the story and how it might pertain to helping animals in real life. Each book as an animal related theme and during the final class meeting on each book the teacher will discuss more about what the theme should teach us about animal care/ veterinary science. Projects for completion after class will be suggested by the teacher but not required. Books and chapters assigned are: Week 1: Vet Volunteers Trapped chapters 1-6 Week 2: Vet Volunteers Trapped chapters 7-12 Week 3: Wrap up Vet Volunteers Trapped with a discussion on animal care Week 4: Vet Volunteers Teacher’s Pet chapters 1-6 Week 5: Vet Volunteers Teacher’s Pet chapters 7-13 Week 6: Wrap Up Vet Volunteers Teacher’s Pet with a discussion on puppy raising. Addition books will be listed in another book club (Part 2, and so on)

I have been a certified veterinary technician for more than 30 years and have been teaching at a local community college in a veterinary Assistant Program and a variety of Veterinary Science programs for grades 3-5, 6-8, and high school. I am also a homeschool mom! At home, my family has 3 mini horses, a Paint horse, 4 Nigerian dwarf goats, 9 chickens and 2 cats! I am passionate about sharing my experience and love for animals and veterinary medicine with all learners from diverse backgrounds from all around the world! If your learner has a dream to be a veterinary professional, then I am excited to help them on these first steps!
