Class Experience

In this course we are going to discuss which creatures can produce venom and which can produce poison. We will cover how these toxins must enter the body to cause harm, and also what effects certain types of poison or venom can impact the body. The students and I will discuss why reptiles and amphibians have these unique adaptations and how they use them. Also, we intend to talk about how certain venom can be used for improving medical knowledge and possible cures for human illnesses.
No prior experience or knowledge needed. Just bring a smiling face!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Join our classes to learn about hundreds of different reptile and amphibian species!
All of the animals that live at our sanctuary were in captivity at some point in their lives. Some of the animals needed to be relocated to new zoos, if the one they are living at shuts down, but most are confiscated illegal pets that people try to keep in their homes. This includes various venomous snakes (like a Black Mamba) and even crocodiles!
Our curriculum will focus on the various habitats, adaptations, and behaviors of each animal we talk about, including their status of endangerment with different conservation efforts!
The mission statement of our organization is to "Promote conservation and preservation of native and non-native reptiles through education, rehabilitation, rescue, and relocation".
Our teachers have various certifications in education and science, including a Bachelor's in Biological Science (Animal Physiology and Behavior) from ASU, and certificates from the Arizona Association for Environmental Education.
