Students will learn the importance of knowing their learning style. The acronym VARK stands for Visual, Aural, Read/write, and Kinesthetic. Students will be more successful in future classes if they can develop a range of learning strategies based on their preferences. The class will interact with the teacher and each other through learning activities. The class will be structured as fun engagement, which will keep the students active and thinking about their own learning style. Students will learn about tools and methods they can try in order to learn effectively in the a classroom setting. DAY 1 Initial 8 minutes will be an introduction of the teacher and students as well as a fun icebreaker question. I will also explain the purpose of the VARK class: --To think about learning and the ways we do it best --To introduce you to your learning preference(s) --To consider the preferences of your peers --To reflect on tools and strategies you can try in order to learn effectively For the next 11 minutes, I will teach students how visual pictures and different formats, fonts and colors emphasize important points. For the next 10 minutes, students will engage in a visual activity. Activity: Split up in pairs, receive a picture, and work together to describe the meaning of the picture. A couple of the students will share what their visual picture depicts. For the next 11 minutes, I will teach how aural information that is spoken or heard is an important part of learning. For the next 10 minutes, students will engage in a listening activity. Activity: Do 3 Things and Red Light, Green Light. For the final 6 minutes, I will answer questions, review vocabulary, and reflect on their learning. Vocabulary (Merriam-Webster) Visual-relating to seeing or sight Aural- relating to the ear or sense of hearing Homework-Draw a picture that depicts your personality. (Happy, Excited, Energetic, or Sad). DAY 2 Initial 7 minutes will consist of a fun icebreaker and students will share their homework. For the next 11 minutes, I will teach students how reading and writing is important to conveying and receiving information. For the next 10 minutes, students will engage in an activity. Activity: Student will split up in pairs and make a list of 10 places where people learn. A couple of the students will share their lists. For the next 11 minutes, I will teach how kinesthetic experiences and examples are an important part of learning. For the next 6 minutes, students will engage in an activity. Activity: Describe a time in your life when you learned how to do something. Think about what you learned, where you were, who taught you, how did they teach you, what did you have in your hand, etc. A couple of the students will share their experience. For the final 10 minutes, students will take a multiple-choice VARK quiz, review vocabulary, reflect on their learning, and say goodbyes. Vocabulary (Merriam-Webster) Read/write-reading is about learning whereas writing is about expressing Kinesthetic-learning from examples or through physical activity

I'm currently in the doctor of education program at Oakland University.
My teaching philosophy is centered on my passion to enhance every student’s learning in my classes. Your children are human and sometimes struggle with challenges during their educational journey. My teaching, tutoring, and mentorship have converted them challenges into success. I ride my motorcycle to Belle Isle in the summer to enjoy the Detroit river.
