Some students will take longer than others while creating artwork. As I do not rush students, some time outside of class may be needed to finish.

Class Experience

In this one time class, students will learn about Vincent Van Gogh's famous sunflower paintings. We will talk about Van Gogh's style and his life, while drawing a beautiful bouquet of flowers in Van Gogh's style. We will use chalk or oil pastels and learn different techniques of drawing, such as cross hatching, and contour line drawing. We will also use lots of blending. Gesture and stroke will be important to draw the flowers. I will give students a brief slideshow at the beginning of class that shows the original artwork along with examples of student art. Then, I will give a demonstration of the drawing, while each student creates their own unique artwork. Students may follow along with me, or create on their own. I encourage individual creativity along the way.

My teaching style is relaxed. Students can go at their own pace. I will encourage students to show me their artwork during the creative process so that I can give feedback that is both educational and enthusiastic. Learners will get to interact with me and with each other, while creating their own artwork and watching my demonstration. At the end of class, students can show their artwork to each other and to me. If students don't feel comfortable sharing, students may opt to post a photo of the finished project in the classroom.

Prior basic drawing skills are recommended, but not required, for this class.

Hello! I am an Art Educator and Artist. I love teaching art to all ages, especially elementary school and middle school. My art classes include watercolor painting, acrylic painting, drawing, elementary art projects that work on skill building, and learning about art history through fun projects about artists - including Non-Western and Women artists.

I teach art from my heart and aim to build self esteem in my students through the arts. I challenge students to find their inner artist through creativity and self expression. I believe in the process of art, individual expression, creative thinking, and problem solving. Each art project is designed to develop technical skills, artistic interpretation, and unique artwork. We have lots of fun while making artwork and socializing is encouraged during my art classes.

My art background began as a child. I loved to learn how to paint or draw anything and everything. After receiving a BFA in Graphic Design, I became a children's textile designer in the fashion industry in NYC. While in New York, I attended fine arts classes at the Art Student's League and The New School. I moved to New York State's Hudson Valley, and am inspired daily by the landscapes and nature around me. I also am inspired by my pet cats, who may visit the classroom once in a while.
