In this class, students will study one fictional dog or cat emergency or illness case a week and use story clues to identify symptoms and suggestions for vet care compared with real-life vet experience from the author's Be the Vet books which have sold over 17000 copies!

Class experience

Students will learn about one specific veterinary case per week but will gain understanding of how a veterinarian decides to best help a sick or injured animal.
I am the co-author of the popular book, BE THE VET. The other co-author is my husband, veterinarian Dr. Ed Blesy. Dr. Ed wrote the veterinary information based upon his twenty + years of veterinary experience while explaining veterinary terminology for student understanding. This case and treatment are fictionalized based upon one doctor’s experience. It was important for us to write a book where the readers get to feel as if they are part of the experience using the context clues from my stories. Over 17,000 books in the series have been sold.

I am also a former certified elementary school teacher and the author of over 25 books for children.
BS in elementary education
MS in educational administration
*Students will need paper and a pencil/highlighter.

*I will upload the story each week to the classroom to be printed off before class. Thank you.
🤢**Note, sometimes images or x-rays of real cases will be shown to support the content learned. Veterinary medicine can be messy, so keep in mind that there may be an occasional picture shown. ONE OF THE CLASSES, X-RAY 1, shows real images and x-rays for the entire class and supports much of the material learned over the weeks. There will be no story for this week. Students still get to "Be the Vet" as they guess what they are seeing in these REAL cases. This is the only class where real cases are discussed for the entire class period and there is no fictional case. This class is often very popular!
