US Grade 4 - 7
Get ready to embark on an exciting journey through time as we explore the stories, struggles, and triumphs that shaped early America. This year, we will uncover the daring adventures of European explorers as they set sail for North America and examine the complex interactions - both cooperative and conflicting - between Native Americans, Europeans, and Africans. As we move forward in time, we’ll dive into the birth of the American colonies, the growing tensions that led to the Revolutionary War, and the fight for independence. Together, we’ll analyze the powerful words of the Declaration of Independence, the principles of the U.S. Constitution, and the rights protected by the Bill of Rights. We’ll ask big questions: What does freedom mean? How do laws shape a society? How do the choices of the past still affect us today? Through stories of real people - leaders, rebels, everyday citizens, and those often left out of traditional history books - we’ll explore the diverse perspectives that shaped the early United States. We’ll use maps, letters, speeches, and other historical sources to investigate, debate, and think like historians. Most importantly, we’ll connect these historical ideas to the world we live in today. How do individual rights and responsibilities affect our lives? What lessons can we learn from history to build a better future? History is more than just dates and facts - it’s a story waiting to be told. Let’s discover it together! *********************************************************************************** This class will be taught through recorded lectures and may also include supplemental videos (Youtube), readings, worksheets, and activities (recipes, movies, dioramas, experiments, etc.).
