Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Beginner - Intermediate Level
General Info:
This class is a full course of US History and I advise to take my World History class after this for a full year of History content. Continue reading for all the info you need.

There are 18 weeks of content. To know which week we are on, please, check the syllabus. Hop in, join in any week, and jump into the topic. Content does not necessarily build, but flows in an organizational manner that makes sense for covering topics. If you want the previous weeks' folders, I will be glad to send those to you upon request. If you wish to catch earlier topics, sessions always restart on new days at times at the beginning of a new semester, usually August and January.

About the Teacher:
I am a certified teacher in various topics, which I teach on Outschool, and I hold a Bachelor’s degree and two Master’s degrees. I strive to align my classes with state standards and GED topics. Each week, your student will see a topic they need to master.

About this Class:
This class is geared towards late Middle School to early High School (Grades 7-10 are ideal depending on the level of your student). Each week we cover a new topic using a variety of learning tools and methods for all styles of learners: discussion, lecture, trivia, videos, and more! Some weeks we practice the skills we learn in class, and others we cover more content.

Class will be between 45-55 Minutes weekly depending on the topic.

Following class each week, I will put a message in the Outschool classroom with a link to a Google folder where I provide my notes from class, resources, and plenty of activities for you to use on the topic. I also link videos in the message for further coverage of topics. Click the “Show More” button on the message to access it.

Grading:
I do provide an overall grade for the class as a full semester/year class style, but I require at least 2 activities to be turned in weekly to me to grade. Some documents have answer pages, so you can go through the work before submitting, but if there is not an answer page provided, I will grade the work. Remember, work is not required, but if you desire a grade, I have to see your student’s work. I will also provide fill-in-the-blank notes for your student to have each week if they want to follow along and take notes during class.

Helpful Information

1. This class is structured for 7th-10th or higher. My goal is to have students enroll and stay in the class for the full listed count of weeks so they get all the topics they need.
2. Please let your student know I often have a lot to cover. I will ask questions and they are welcome to comment, but please keep questions and comments directed to the topic we are covering, and I require them to raise their hands to speak.

Refund and Pause Policy:
1. If a makeup class is set by me due to a change on my end, you will not receive a refund. You can access recordings and all resources.
2. If you must miss class, you must ask for a refund 48 hours before the class meeting. If you ask on the day of class or after, no refund will be given.
Learning Goals
Students will leave my class with a more well rounded understanding of US History with some major world events and eras.

Sources
All content to teach comes from textbooks, valid history sites, as well as other credible resources. I have taught history for many years. Sources used include the McGraw Hill US History textbooks for Middle and High School levels, History.com, Britanica.com, and other history-based sites. Most content comes from things I have taught for many years as a certified teacher under standard curriculum. I also use videos from certified teachers or History.com as well. I also have Native American heritage in my family, as well as German family members, so I am qualified to teach at least the basics of the indiginous people of our country and other historic events that took place. All content being taught is foundation level, but diving deeper into these topics can be done at home and with my resources.

I am certified in various subjects and have taught these topics in classes on Outschool and in Charter schools for a long time. I am well versed in these topics and standards and love teaching them. Students are urged to join in the discussion. I have been teaching these topics for many years and am certified and qualified to teach on marginalized groups and topics in relation to History due to my certification to do so. I teach them, with discretion but fact on the topic. Also, my direct heritage is Native American and German. I do have insight from my personal family on many of these topics. I am more than qualified to cover them.
