Class Experience

Flipped classrooms reverse the traditional learning environment. Instead of students passively listening to a teacher-led lesson during class, the students will watch a recording and do notes before we meet. During our time in class together, students will engage in classroom discussions, activities, group work, and games.

This class is highly dependent on students watching the lesson videos before the first class. Students who do not watch the video before class, will not be able to participate fully in class.

Of course, I understand that there are students who may not want to actively participate in an in-person conversation and dialogue.
These students may want to take a more traditional approach. For those students, I offer the flex version of this class. Please visit the link to enroll and find out more details in the flex class,

Camera and Verification Rule
In my courses, students will be asked to turn on their cameras to engage in this flip class. With this flip class approach, engagement is very important to the structure of the class. If a student misses a class with the flipped approach, they will already have the lecture and I will share the activities with them. I will not share recordings. Students who prefer to watch recordings are highly encouraged to enroll in the flex version of this class.

The next course of this series is US History: New Nation to Reconstruction. It focuses on the creation of a new nation and the growing pains of developing a working system. The courses do not have to be taken in order and students can start and choose which class in the series they would like to focus on. If students are interested in taking all of the courses, my suggestion is for them to start and follow the course numerically.

Teacher expertise and credentials
This class is a foundational course for students in elementary and middle school level. I am offering this to help students create a foundation of information for exploring US history. What makes me a great teacher of this class is my 5-years of experience teaching a similar course in a traditional classroom and my Bachelors of Science degree in History. I believe in creating an environment where students are involved in their learning. This is created in the activities that are included in the live class, as well as, the assignments created between class meetings.
