Description
Class Experience
Students will learn the basics of how their government is run, why voting is important, and what the president does. Students will also learn why they have off school for certain holidays.
I have a degree in Elementary Education which required me to take a few courses on how to teach elementary level history. I also was an AP history student in high school as well as taking several history classes in college. I live near Gettysburg, PA, so American history has been a part of my life since I was a child. My father is a battlefield guide and Civil War expert. I enjoy learning about and teaching history, only tutoring topics of which I feel the most comfortable with.
interactive google slides to review learned information each week.
See the class description for supplies. I will also post the supplies needed each week in the classroom.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Kahoot
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
I will share my screen to present a nearpod presentation. Students will not be required to access this source on their own. A google slides presentation and Kahoot! will be posted for students to practice and assess their knowledge. These do not require logins. A "nickname" is required for Kahoot! but this can be a fun name and does not have to be the learners real name. A code will also be required to access Kahoot! and will be given in the classroom forum. The google slides presentation will be a simple link to follow and download. Youtube videos will be used via screen share and do not require a personal account for the student. Sensitivity Warning: topics such as slavery, Indigenous suppression and genocide, and racisim may be addressed in weeks two and three.
