1 hour per week. Students will be assigned a state to research each class (after the first class), which they will present to the group the following class (if they are comfortable with that). Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
**This class is also available as a 3-day camp** // **This class is also available as a FLEX class**

This fun, interactive geography class will meet once a week for 6 weeks *OR* 6 consecutive days (PLEASE double check the dates you select!!). In each of the first 5 classes, students will learn about 10 US states and their capitals. The final class will consist of games and other activities to review, reinforce and test their memory in a fun way! Repetition is the key to retention! The first 5 classes will consist of review, presentation, discussion, and other activities to help students learn. After the first class, students will choose a state to research and present to the group the following class (if they are comfortable doing so). Each class will be a collaboration between the students and me; students will take an active roll in learning, as opposed to me just lecturing. We will discuss a little about each state, but the focus will be on students learning the capital of each state. No prior knowledge of this topic is required for this class, just an interest in learning more about our amazing country!
Day 1: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia
Day 2: Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland
Day 3: Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Christine and I am a Colorado native. I have two awesome sons, who are 11 and 21. I love to travel, explore, learn and teach about nature! I have been to all 50 US states, about 22 countries and I can't wait to finally get to see the rest of the world!!
I have an Associate of Science, in geology, and a Bachelors in geography and environmental studies from the University of Colorado.
I have taught science, in a variety of settings, over the past 18 years. During that time, I also worked as a tour guide at a local commercial cave! Geology rocks isn't just a catchy pun, it's a passion! I teach a variety of geography and geology-related classes. My classes combine lots of interaction with hands-on learning. I find that most people retain more information through doing something than just reading about it.
