Class Experience

This Middle School United States Geography class will help learners know and understand important facts about the States in America. For some students this may be a refresher with more information that they never knew about. There will be some history related topics included as well. It will cover things such as:

-> State Capitals
-> State Flags & their History
-> Demographics
-> State Birds, Flowers, Trees, & Nicknames
-> People, Places, History, and Customs that make the State unique
-> Tourism Hot Spots
 -> Other fascinating details and facts in this 50 States class

Class will start out on the first day covering Washington D.C., our nation’s capital and Alabama. We will then continue alphabetically covering the rest of the letter “A” States and go through "W" Wyoming being the end. On average we will cover 2-states a day. This class will be structured by: Lecture, Student Interaction, Fun Facts, On-Topic Activities, quizzes, and a weekly test. This is a very interactive class so one of my main rules is that the learners camera and audio MUST BE ON at all times or parents/guardians will be contacted. If this problem continues students will be sent to the waiting room due to safety reasons.
This class will be structured by lecture, interaction among everyone, fun facts and activities. Learners will receive the next day power points via the Classroom so please make sure they either have them printed out or that they have them pulled up on the computer during class time. There will also be small quiz sheets placed on the classroom as well that will need to be completed before the next day before getting into that days state.

Here is a brief example of a state that will be covered:
Let's talk about Arkansas. The reason I am going to talk about this state is because it is my home state.
Arkansas Is in the south and was the 25th State to enter the union and was purchased as part of the Louisiana Purchase as a separate territory back in 1819 and then achieved statehood and became an official state in 1836. The capital of Arkansas is Little Rock, which is also the largest populated city with almost 200,000 people residing there. Arkansas is also the home of the largest point of the U.S. Interior Highlands and that Is Mount Magazine located in Logan County in Western Arkansas. There is a hiking trail called Signal Hill that actually takes you to the highest point of the mountain and that is right at 2,753 feet above sea level. Arkansas is the nation’s leading producer of rice and poultry and grows nearly every crop produced in the United States with the exception of citrus fruits.

Grades can be given by parent request. These grades will be based on: Attendance, Quiz Grade, Class Participation, & Weekly Test.

Parental Guidance
Even though most all of the states dealt with some form of Racism at one time or another, we will not be covering anything having to do with that in this class. The main focus on this is getting the learner familiar with the states in America and interesting facts that pertain to them.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
