Description
Class Experience
Students will learn: -The history behind the Declaration of Independence and why it was written. -A true understanding of what the document meant in the past and for today. -Critical thinking and analysis skills
I have been teaching social studies since 2003. I have been to several trainings put on by the Center for Civic Education and completed other professional development opportunities that dealt with our Founding documents.
There will be homework between most meetings that will consist of reading, watching videos or some other prep work for our next meeting.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be assessed by how they can apply the homework to what we are doing in class.
2 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Though this deals with the government, the are no overt discussions of political beliefs. As the teacher, I always play the devil's advocate to get students to think about things from multiple perspectives and help them better understand their own beliefs.
