Beginner Level
In this one time social studies class, the students will learn all about different types of communities~rural, urban, and suburban. They will learn to identify each community by looking at houses, transportation, trees, bodies of water, streets, and people. The students will learn that people have to make decisions about where to live. The students will use their listening skills to create a folded paper project with crayons or colored pencils. The finished project will demonstrate the similarities and differences in all three types of communities. The students will have an opportunity to share their work, if they feel comfortable.

Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom.
My name is Betty Nilssen. 💕
I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade, full inclusive classrooms. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power.
However, I always incorporate math, writing, drawing, social studies and science into all of my lessons, as well.
I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers. My mom was also an educator.
There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw. Let's get started!
Enroll your Early Childhood Education student and your child will further develop an academic foundation and gain academic confidence with a love of learning. Your child will be a life time reader!
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or if you are looking for different times or dates for classes.
I can't wait to work with you and your child and further a passion for learning!
