Class Experience

This course is an art intensive course for students who really want to dive into their skills and their form of expression. To be in this class, you must already have a well-formed understanding of drawing. With that being said, we will still be working on developing those skills. However, I would not recommend this class for new artists.
This class will be taking place in sections that must be taken in order. This is the fourth section for the class and must be taken after the third section. If you have not taken the first three sections please start there or contact me to see if it would be okay to join.
This is an excellent course for homeschoolers!! This course is modeled after an AP Studio Art class but PLEASE NOTE this is not a class that can be taken for AP credit.
Within this course, we will be going through a number of materials, such as paint, sculpting materials, and a multitude of drawing materials. (See Learner Supply List for more information)
Please contact me prior to the first class you attend so I can specifically tell you what materials will be needed for the current or upcoming project.
Similarly to my Advanced Drawing Course, there will be times where we will work to fully plan our pieces using thumbnail drawings, mood boards, reference photos, experimentation with media, and color schemes. However, this process will have higher expectations than my Advanced Drawing Course and will be a bit more vigorous with more research and further evaluation of connection to self, culture, and others. This class will also involve critiques after projects, as well as in the middle of a project. Something new to this class that was not a part of my Advanced Drawing Course is writing, there will be assignments with writing in response to others art work as well as about ones own work. It is important for developing artists to understand how to talk and write about art, whether it is someone elses art or anothers.

Please understand that as this class is meant for artists who are ready for upper level artistic expression, classes will not be fully step by step, there will be moments of step by step but it is an important part of the course that students learn to be somewhat independant artists.

Please note that the cost of this class is essentially $14 per class, so $28 per week.

Dear Families,
I have loved and cherished art for my entire life and my hope is that I may be able to ignite or strengthen this love for art within my students. I want to extend to you and your child my warmest welcome into my virtual classroom.
My philosophy for learning in the art room revolves around differentiating instruction for each student’s individual needs. Coming together into the classroom, we each bring with us our goals, desires, our histories, our struggles, and our joys. Art allows us to express these aspects about ourselves and I believe it is important to do so. Through each of our projects, I will work with every individual learner to adjust the parameters to their interests and skill set while challenging them to always push forward.
Through my virtual classroom, I will be teaching art classes in painting, drawing, and even some sculpture for all ages and for all creative minds! We will work with a wide variety of materials, techniques, and analytical thought processes in each of my classes.
Through my undergraduate career, I received a BFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in Sculpture and a BSE in K-12 Art Education, both in the spring of 2023. Beginning in the Fall of 2023, I will be pursuing a Master's in Fine Art in the highly ranked MFA program at Arizona State University. I have been teaching on Outschool since May of 2020 and have assisted artists in residence and students at the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in Vermont during their summer 2022 stone carving workshops. I have created and sold a wide variety of artwork professionally, such as drawings, paintings, and sculptures, and have exhibited in a variety of art galleries. I am highly passionate about art and I strongly believe that when doing artwork, you are building a relationship with your materials and the creation itself. Throughout my time doing and practicing artwork, I have learned that art is a powerful force that can be meditative and help connect you with yourself and the values you carry.
With all this being said, I am happy to receive any comments, questions, or concerns through Outschool messaging. I look forward to working with your child and supporting them in every step of the process through their artistic endeavors!

Sincerely,
Amelia LaChance
