US Grade 3 - 4
Welcome to an exciting journey through time and space! In this class, students will join a community of amazing learners as we explore the rich history of the world and its diverse cultures. Taught by the incredible Ms. Jerika Berry, a certified history instructor with over 7 years of experience teaching elementary social studies (and college history, too!), students will embark on a fun, interactive learning experience. We will meet twice a week for live lessons, where each session kicks off with a fascinating history fact that connects to our theme of the day. Get ready to discover the secrets of ancient civilizations, dive into world geography, explore different communities, and even understand economics in a way that's fun and easy to grasp. Class Highlights: Dynamic Lessons: Every session introduces a new topic, so students can join or leave as their schedules allow. Engagement & Interaction: Students are encouraged to discuss, ask questions, and learn from each other. Hands-on Learning: We'll use PowerPoints, printables, and even some creative projects to deepen our understanding. Fun History Facts: Each class begins with a quirky fact that relates to our topic, sparking curiosity and conversation. Weekly Topics (22 Weeks): Week 1 – Early Humans: Discover how our ancestors lived and survived. Week 2 – Mesopotamia: The cradle of civilization and what makes it so special. Week 3 – Maps: Learn how to read maps and understand directions. Week 4 – Continents: Dive into the seven continents and their unique features. Week 5 – Oceans: Explore the vast oceans that cover our planet. Week 6 – Communities: What makes a community, and how do they function? Week 7 – Traditions: Cultural traditions from around the world. Week 8 – Ancient Egypt: Uncover the mysteries of the pyramids and pharaohs. Week 9 – Greece and Rome: How these ancient empires shaped our world. Week 10 – Early Trade Routes: Follow the path of ancient merchants and explorers. Week 11 – Landforms: Mountains, valleys, and plains—what shapes our planet? Week 12 – Natural Resources: How do people use the Earth’s resources? Week 13 – Indigenous Cultures: Learn about the rich cultures of Indigenous peoples worldwide. Week 14 – The Age of Exploration: Sail across seas with famous explorers. Week 15 – Agriculture & Farming: How agriculture changed human history. Week 16 – Weather & Climate: Understand how weather patterns affect our planet. Week 17 – Famous Monuments: Discover the wonders of famous landmarks like the Great Wall and the Colosseum. Week 18 – Cultural Celebrations: From Diwali to Carnival, explore how people celebrate around the world. Week 19 – Migration & Movement: Why do people move, and how does it change societies? Week 20 – Environmental Stewardship: Learn how to care for the Earth and preserve it for future generations. Week 21 – Economics for Kids: The basics of trade, money, and how economies work. Week 22 – The Future of Our World: What might the future hold, and how do we prepare for it? Because this class is focused on a wide range of global learners, we steer clear of political topics like government systems. However, we place a strong emphasis on understanding the natural world—our oceans, continents, landforms, and beyond! We can't wait to have your learner join us for this exciting adventure through history and geography!
