Description

Class Experience

Students will increase their reading comprehension skills through discussions and close reading. Students will also define who they are and what they stand for. I love the quote by Charles Bukowski, Do you remember who you were before the world told you who to be? Stargirl's biggest themes include individuality and unconformity. My goal is for students to celebrate their individualism, increase self-esteem, and bond as a group during this unique time in history. Students will also participate in art and writing activities.
In 2003, I had my first classroom. I read Stargirl to the class and fell in love with the book. Now I often give the book as a gift. I love hearing the insights, questions, and inspirations from each reader. I have a passion for guiding students to be themselves, increase their self-confidence, and spread kindness. Besides teaching, I have lead school groups and clubs on self-esteem, kindness, happiness, mindfulness, and friendships.
Students may read the book prior to camp or in between camping days. Readers do not need to finish the book before camp is completed.
