This course is designed for students who are confident with the physical process of writing, but need guidance and practice in adding more interest and imagination to their work. Students will be taught how to improve their vocabulary choices and use of grammar in sentence writing. They will be encouraged to comment on each other's writing in a supportive way. The emphasis will be on having fun with words. Using a variety of unimaginative texts, students will practice a different strategy each week in order to improve the quality of sentences; transforming a boring text into 'exciting writing'. In weeks 5 and 6, they will apply all the skills learned in the first 4 weeks. Week 1: Using adjectives, powerful verbs and adverbs. Week 2: Using conjunctions. Week 3: Considering word order. Week 4: Using similes. Week 5 & 6: Consolidation of skills from weeks 1-4. Throughout the course, I will emphasize to students that they will be able to practice these skills in all their future writing.
Learning Goals

Students will experiment with changing the word order of sentences.
Students will learn to use similes for effect.
Students will learn how to be a 'critical friend'; suggesting improvements to other's writing.Other Details
