In this quick, easy, and fun workshop, we'll learn how to make origami hearts using any paper we have around the house.

Beginner Level
In this fun, casual workshop, we will learn how to create origami hearts using paper we have around the house. These hearts can be displayed in your windows for "heart hunters," or given as gifts! We will learn how to fold and cut any paper to create a square, and then we'll go through each step to fold the origami heart. Students will have the opportunity to chat with each other and share their work. I'll use a video I've made to show the steps, along with a "document camera" to demonstrate...
Students will learn: to create a square from any paper to fold carefully and crisply the vocabulary words: origami, crease, diagonal, middle, bone folder, precise, symmetrical, opposite, rotate, flip to create a simple origami form: the heart
I've been teaching art in many settings for over 25 years, and am a National Board Certified art teacher. I have been creating and trading Artist Trading Cards for 15 years, and I love using them in the classroom. I have 2 Masters degrees in Education; 1 in leadership, and 1 in Reading, and I am a certified reading specialist. I use my knowledge of language development in all the instruction I deliver.
This class is appropriate for a wide range of students, including those with neurodiverse brains. I support all learners by observing and meeting their needs informed by decades of experience as an educator of typical and neurodiverse kids.
-I will be playing one youtube video that I have created as a teaching tool, but students won't need to access youtube on their own. -thin to typical papers (for example: notebook, magazine pages, ads, repurposed artwork) -scissors -a smooth marker (such as a crayola) or a bone folder for creasing -a flat, smooth work surface -well-lit work area
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
If students choose to use scissors or paper cutters provided by parents, supervision may be needed as determined by parents. Parents, please ensure that all ads and content in magazines are age-appropriate. Some ads may be offensive to certain students and families; ie. certain clothing ads.
