Do you love animals? Do you have an awesome pet you want the world to meet...or know some really cool animal facts that you want to show off? This is the class for you! During the course, students will learn and use the following vocabulary words to figure out an unusual animal that is being described: migrate, hibernate, habitat, diurnal, nocturnal, crepuscular, carnivore, omnivore, and herbivore. Students will work together in a 20-questions style format to ask questions and will use their knowledge of unusual animals to guess mystery animals. Amusing and informative videos about the animal will also be shown. Additionally, students will use critical thinking skills to solve animal riddles. At various points throughout the lessons, each student will have a chance to talk about their own pet or show off their knowledge of their favorite animals.
Learning Goals
1. Students will understand and use the following vocabulary words: migrate, hibernate, habitat, diurnal, nocturnal, crepuscular, carnivore, omnivore, and herbivore.
2. Students will increase their knowledge of unusual animals and weird but true facts about them.
3. Students will use their critical thinking and collaboration skills to solve the mysteries and riddles together.

Additionally, we've taught curriculum development, technology integration, and and professional learning techniques to teachers at all levels.
Co-director Dr. James Maxlow earned a doctoral degree in Curriculum and Educational Technology at the College of William and Mary. His dissertation focused on the use of online interactive games to teach historical empathy to middles school students. He also holds a master's degree in Computer Science and a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Christopher Newport University. Co-director Kate Maxlow earned a master's degree in Elementary Education from the College of William and Mary and also holds a bachelor's degree in History from the University of Virginia.
