This is a one time course where students will learn about 3 important African Americans (Henrietta Lacks, Maulana Karenga, and Lonnie Johnson) and what they have done to impact the world we live in today.
Class experience
In this course you will learn about little know African Americans who have impacted our lives today. They will be inventors, entertainers and much more. I will cover their life's facts, show pictures and short video clips of them and or their inventions. Sources will come from: The African American Holiday of Kwanzaa by Maulana Karenga, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, and Whoosh! Students will learn about important figures in African American history. Some may still be alive today!
My relevant experience for teaching this topic are that I have taken 3 courses from Grand Valley State university as well as am a part of the culture upon which I am teaching. I am an African American female that has been trained and taught post secondary to teach as well as experience what I am teaching. I have studied this topic for over 25 years.
