This super fun class will give picky eaters a chance to tame their fears! We'll explore and sample 3 new, healthy foods each week. We'll investigate smells, textures, colors, and overall appearance. We'll share some techniques to get past weird textures and ways to mellow out extreme flavors. The weekly food choices will usually contain something from each of three categories; commonly accepted foods (i.e. apples, potatoes, bananas), oddly textured foods (i.e. avocados, okra, kiwi), and strongly flavored foods (i.e. lemons, beets, onions). Students will have the opportunity to talk about their favorite flavors and share their food worries with their peers, developing a camaraderie with which to cheer one another on in their new food adventures. Together we'll take tiny, exploratory steps that could end in a nibble of a previously despised food. Please have food washed and prepped before meetings. ****Note to parents**** Students do best in this class when parents are as hands-off as possible! (Behavior maintenance and food prep is helpful) The feeling of being brave and the fun of camaraderie between students is a great motivator. Kids who feel powerful and informed when making healthy food choices are most likely to make these healthy choices into adulthood, and this is ultimately the result we work towards in this club. ****Weekly Foods**** 8/18-8/24 broccoli & plums & black beans 8/25-8/31 green beans & raspberries & sunflower seeds 9/1-9/7 sweet potatoes & Asian pears & lentils 9/8-9-14 cauliflower & apples & eggs 9/15-9/21 chickpeas & nectarines & pumpkin seeds 9/22-9/28 parsnips & pineapple & spinach 9/29-10/5 avocado & blueberries & kidney beans 10/6-10/12 carrots & bananas & hummus 10/13-10/19 Kale & dried cranberries & white beans 10/20-10/26 sugar snap peas & kiwi & mushrooms 10/27-11/2 asparagus & dates & pumpkin
