  • *Students will practice note-taking skills (highlighting, labeling, etc.) by viewing video lessons, and reading and highlighting informational passages independently
  • *Students will determine differences between fiction and nonfiction by viewing a video lesson
  • *Students will practice identifying plot events and studying characters by answering reading comprehension questions independently, viewing video lesson, and completing activities
  • *Students will look at symbols and themes in books/stories by viewing video lessons and completing activities
I'm a certified English teacher and Reading Specialist with 15 years of teaching experience. I've taught 6th grade for four years and wrote curricula for multiple school districts and independently taught students. 
2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
Assignments
Frequency: 3-6 per week
Feedback: as needed
Details: Students are expected to work in order on all class assignments. Those activities that can be submitted for teacher feedback are not mandatory, but are recommended. The teacher will review submitted work and Blooket scores and provide weekly progress report messages on Fridays (if work was completed).

This course accommodates those with ADHD, Autism, dyslexia, dysgraphia, etc.).
Lesson videos, guided notes, an outline and checklist are included. 
Message the instructor for additional accommodations.
Teacher will provide all vocabulary, informational passages, short stories, handouts, and reading comprehension questions. 

Students need to following books:
*Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling
*Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit
*Number the Stars by Lois Lowry
*Among the Hidden by Margaret Peterson Haddix

Students should also have:
*pen/pencils
*highlighters
*paper
*colored pencils/markers/crayons
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone involves magic and wizards.
Tuck Everlasting mentions hanging 
Number the Stars takes place during WWII and includes Nazi occupation of Denmark. There is no mention of concentration camps. 
Among the Hidden does focus on population control. 

Online games will be used. 
Learning.org and reviewgamezone.com games do not need an account to play. 
Blooket does not require an account
A quizlet account is needed for the symbolism lesson.
