What makes this class unique and exceptional is that, instead of simply copying and modifying existing designs, we focus on using various sources of inspiration—including master art and anime styles—to create original characters and develop the design process from scratch. Learning to create original characters by incorporating multiple reference images is a valuable skill in the professional world. This design process teaches students how to blend various sources of inspiration to craft unique and innovative characters, rather than simply copying existing designs. By drawing on references from different styles and concepts, students can develop their own distinctive creations. In our class, students will have the option to follow the teacher's guidance or explore their own creative pathways. Each instructor—Sanya, Megan, and Jelly—will offer their insights into the creative process, sharing strategies for synthesizing diverse inspirations into original artwork. This approach not only enhances students' design skills but also prepares them for real-world challenges in the art and design industries. 𐃘Syllabus 1. **Vincent van Gogh** (Sept 16): Explore bold colors and expressive brushwork. 2. **Claude Monet** (Sept 23): Focus on light and color in landscapes, applying it to anime backgrounds. 3. **Frida Kahlo** (Sept 30): Discuss personal expression and symbolism, encouraging students to reflect on their own stories in their characters. 4. **Pop Art (Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein)** (Oct 7): Incorporate bold lines and vibrant colors, merging pop culture with anime. 5. **Japanese Woodblock Printmakers (e.g., Hokusai)** (Oct 14): Blend traditional techniques with anime, focusing on composition and nature themes. 6. **Gustav Klimt** (Oct 21): Explore intricate patterns and gold leaf techniques to enhance anime character designs. 7. **Salvador Dalí** (Oct 28): Experiment with surrealism to create imaginative and dreamlike anime scenes. 8. **Pablo Picasso** (Nov 4): Apply Cubist techniques to anime, breaking characters into geometric shapes and perspectives. 9. **Henri Matisse** (Nov 11): Use Fauvism’s vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes to add dynamic energy to anime backgrounds and characters. 10. **Jackson Pollock** (Nov 18): Incorporate Abstract Expressionism’s spontaneous techniques for unique and expressive anime art. 11. **Georgia O'Keeffe** (Nov 25): Focus on close-up details and organic forms to create stunning anime landscapes and character elements. 12. **Diego Rivera** (Dec 2): Explore murals and social themes, integrating storytelling and cultural elements into anime art. 13. **Egon Schiele** (Dec 9): Emphasize dramatic lines and emotional intensity to develop striking anime characters. 14. **Marc Chagall** (Dec 16): Use dreamlike and whimsical elements to inspire fantastical anime worlds and characters. 15. **Paul Cézanne** (Dec 23): Incorporate post-impressionist techniques to develop depth and structure in anime compositions.
