This flexible-schedule class is a multi-part exploration into the birth and development of America with focus on geography, economy, government, foreign affairs and the people who helped to shape the new nation. Throughout the course, an emphasis is placed on the development of social studies skills, critical thinking skills, geography skills and the multicultural nature of American society.

We will study the following topics over the course of 5 weeks:

Week 2: The Progressive Era
Weeks 3-4: World War 1
Weeks 4-5: The Effects of World War 1

Students will demonstrate their learning through participation in the weekly classroom activities (no live meetings).

*This is a flexible schedule class. Each lesson will be delivered via a prerecorded video that will be uploaded into the classroom every week. Each week, students will be assigned an activity to complete related to the prerecorded video. Each student will be required to comment on the activity postings each week, as directed by the activity, throughout the course in order to to develop a sense of community in the class. The instructor will be available to help and will provide individual feedback throughout the course.

By the end of the 5 weeks, students will:
