United States Geography: Explore the States and Capitals
Class experience
US Grade 5 - 8
In this ongoing class, we will explore the 50 states and some territories of the USA each week. We will learn about the state's history, geographical features, capital, industry, and the animals that live there. I always welcome sharing of any fun facts students may know about the state. This is an ongoing class and students may join or take a break at any time. Lessons will involve a slideshow presentation with opportunities for students to express their opinions. My teaching style is...
Students will learn about each of the 50 US state and what makes each one of them unique. They will also gain map reading skills as they learn to observe and read maps.
I hold a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Sociology. I enjoy learning and teaching Social Studies related topics. My passions lie in the study of geography and how it affects our daily lives. I enjoy sharing this knowledge with young learners because I believe geographic knowledge is a foundational and essential skills needed to navigate and explore our wonderful world.
A one page worksheet will be posted into the classroom for students to use during our lesson.
This class uses blooket or Gimkit for reviewing the lesson. These are fun, gamified learning platforms that enables students to review class material by answering questions in a quiz-style format. Students do not need an account or additional device to play the game. I will send a direct link to the game where the student clicks and joins the game directly. Also, students may use Google Earth and Google Maps to explore different places around the state. Please note that some video content is from Youtube (learners will watch no more than 3 minutes). Content is age-appropriate and will be screen-shared. Learners will not go onto any external websites.
