US Grade 1 - 4
In each class meeting, students will learn about a different magical creature. Students will be invited to share what they already know about the day's creature. Then, I will read aloud from several sources about the creature and students will be encouraged to ask and/or respond to questions about the text. Students will be invited to complete optional creative homework after class, which they can share during the next meeting if they desire. A list of resources (crafts, books, movies, series, etc.) will be provided in the classroom page daily in order to help students keep learning about the day's creature after class if they choose to. Day 1- Phoenixes After introducing ourselves to each other, students will share what they already know about phoenixes. I will then read to students from several books (and perhaps show clips from movies and shows) so students can learn where phoenixes live, what they do, and what their magical characteristics are. I will also endeavor to answer any questions that students have about phoenixes. Day 2- Unicorns Students who want to share their phoenix homework will do so. Then, students will share what they already know about unicorns. I will read to students from several books (and perhaps show clips from movies and shows) so students can learn where unicorns live, what they do, and what their magical characteristics are. I will also endeavor to answer any questions that students have about unicorns. Day 3- Dragons Students who want to share their unicorn homework will do so. Then, students can share what they already know about dragons. I will read to students from several books (and perhaps show clips from movies and shows) so students can learn where dragons live, what they do, and what their magical characteristics are. I will also endeavor to answer any questions that students have about dragons. (Note: This will be a presentation of general characteristics of dragons rather than study of specific types of dragons.)
Learning Goals
Students will learn general characteristics of unicorns, dragons, and phoenixes. They will learn about each creature's habitat, habits, and magical characteristics. Students will interact with each other and myself by answering and asking questions as well as by sharing their opinions, work, and prior knowledge as they feel comfortable.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Vermont Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Master's Degree from University of Louisville
I am a long-time fan of magical creatures and have taught classes about them to this age group before. As a licensed elementary school teacher I understand how to keep students in this age group engaged during a lesson in a way that sets them up to continue their learning experience after class.
