Class Experience

In this intermediate French class that meets weekly, students will come into class and to read and write 7-8 words in French. The words will be themed each week. We will have a few minutes for introductions, and then move into learning. This class will be taught primarily in French. I will translate the words and story into English for the students as we are reading to help with understanding.

In this class students will have the opportunity to interact with each other and the teacher. There will be a PowerPoint, which will cover the correct pronunciation of all of the words, along with their meanings and how to spell them.

The dictée portion of this class will happen during the last 10 minutes of each class. Students are asked to bring paper and a pen or pencil to class to write down their dictée words. They will have the chance to check their words after the dictée and to ask any questions. It's okay to make mistakes! This is a safe learning environment. Mistakes are just stepping stones to success!

A dictée is a perfect learning opportunity to learn how to write in French. Additionally, students that participate in dictées have an easier time reading. As this is a language class, students are strongly encouraged to come to class with a working microphone so they can interact with the teacher. Students should be able to read and write to join this class. This is an intermediate level French class taught in French, so it is strongly recommended that students should have at least 6 months experience in French prior to coming to class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to read, write and spell a handful of new words and sentences each class.

I grew up in a bilingual household here in Canada and we spoke both French and English growing up. Learning multiple languages is a great tool for world travellers, and it is a fantastic tool to stimulate your brain. I love speaking French and cannot wait to share my love of this language with you!
