Discovering Sympathy, Empathy, and Compassion! In this class, students will learn the difference between these three concepts and how they can apply them in their daily lives. First, we will start by defining sympathy, empathy, and compassion. Using visual aides students will learn that sympathy is feeling sorry for someone's situation, empathy is understanding how someone feels, and compassion is taking action to help someone who is suffering. Next, students will view pictures and hear social stories designed to help children visualize and identify the different ways in which sympathy, empathy, and compassion can be demonstrated. Additionally, we will discuss the effects of practicing compassion on the brain and its positive impact on mental health, physical health, and social interactions. Students will be given tools in order to incorporate compassion into their daily routines and interactions with others. Throughout the class, I will used a variety of interactive teaching methods, group discussions, role-playing exercises, and fun games to reinforce the concepts and make the class engaging and enjoyable. By the end of the class, students will have a clear understanding of the differences between sympathy, empathy, and compassion. They will also have learned how practicing compassion can positively impact their well-being and relationships with others. This class will help children develop a greater sense of empathy and compassion for those around them and inspire them to become more caring and empathetic individuals.
