Understanding Physics: Forces FLEX (14 - 18)
What's included
Homework
2-4 hours per week. Students will be given two assignments each week for each new content covered. These may be worksheets provided, or links to websites for a virtual assessment to be completed.Assessment
Upon parent request, grades for all assignments will be provided, and students will have the option of completing an assessment at the end of the class to gauge understanding. There will also be a quiz given each week, in addition to the "final" at the end of the class.Grading

US Grade 9 - 12
In this course, students will learn about force in physics. "Force" covers a wide array of topics and is laden with applying mathematics throughout each lesson. This is Part 2 of 6 if you are completing the entire "Understanding Physics" series. Along with the conceptual topics of force being covered, I will be teaching the students how to use, apply, and rearrange formulas when solving equations. Each lesson will include a number of practice problems we will work together. This course will utilize sites like Nearpod, Quizizz, Flipgrid, and others to help students learn and master the content. Webquests will be assigned each week so that students have a "hand" in searching for relevant information to the topic we are covering. Students will also complete some at-home "labs" where they will be using their own bodies and common household items (the floor, wall, cell phone, string, etc.) to investigate the nature of different types of force. There will also be a weekly phenomena included to show the students how the course material ties to real life. The course is outlined below: Week 1 Students will use Newton's Three Laws of Motion to construct explanations on how forces affect the acceleration, position, and interaction of bodies at rest and in motion. Week 2 - Students will be learn how to develop and use a model of a Free Body Diagram to represent the forces acting on an object. Week 3 - Students will calculate magnitudes and vector components for gravitational, normal, friction, tension, and spring forces. Week 4 - Students will use investigations to gather evidence to identify the force responsible for causing an object to move in a circular path. Centripetal acceleration will also be calculated. Week 5 - Students will describe and calculate the mathematical relationship between mass, distance, and force in Newton's Universal Law of Gravitation. Week 6- A review of all concepts covered thus far in the course, and then an assessment will be given to show mastery of the subject matter.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to communicate and evaluate information about how forces affect the motion of objects.
