What's included

Homework
2-4 hours per week. Each week, for weeks 1 - 5, I will upload a practice sheet for the students to complete on the concepts covered that week's video.
Assessment
Students will be given optional labs they can do at home with common household items, as well as optional online multiple choice assessments.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
This 6-week course is the 3rd of 6 classes in the "Understanding Physics" series. This class will focus on energy, conservation of energy, momentum, and collisions. Along with the conceptual topics of energy and momentum being covered, I will be teaching the students how to use, apply, and rearrange formulas when solving the total mechanical energy of a system and how to ensure energy is conserved mathematically. Each week a new lesson will be uploaded, along with a note sheet the students can print to follow along with, and an assignment to practice what they've learned. This class will utilize both Nearpod and Flipgrid. These platforms will allow students to experience online simulations for "Labs" and be able to interact withe each other and myself, through discussion boards, video messages, games, etc. Lessons will include videos, polls, a collaboration activity for students to share ideas, articles for students to read and refer to, open-ended questions, and lots of pictures! Each week, students will be sent an optional at-home lab they can do to see the concept of the week in motion and gauge understanding of given materials. There will be an optional quiz given during the 6th week for students to gauge what they've learned through the course.

Week 1
Students will review acceleration, force, and work, then compare and contrast open and closed systems.

Week 2 -
Students will learn to analyze, evaluate, and apply conservation of energy and the Work-Kinetic Energy Theorem by calculating the kinetic energy of an object and the work performed by force on an object.

Week 3 -
Students will demonstrate conservation and rate of transfer of energy
in closed systems.

Week 4 -
Students will learn the principle of conserving momentum and compare momentum and impulse.

Week 5 -
Students will compare elastic and inelastic collisions.

Week 6- A review of all concepts covered thus far in the course, and then an assessment will be given to show mastery of the subject matter.

Upon parental quest, I will provide grades for assignments completed and the quiz. Successful completion of all 6 "Understanding Physics" courses mean the student has completed an entire high school physics class.

Learning Goals

Students will improve their understanding of the process of energy and momentum being conserved, as well as be able to explain conceptually and mathematically energy, momentum, and impulse.

Hello!

I teach high school science at a public school in Georgia. I'm completing my 12th year in the classroom, recently received my Ed. S in Secondary Education, and my focus subject are chemistry, physics, forensic science, and environmental science.

My goal for all my students is to realize that understanding science is not a daunting task. I strive to make "hard" concepts seem simple. I try to create a culture in my classroom where my students feel encouraged to ask questions and THINK! If I can get my students thinking and questioning, I feel I've done my job well.
