Class Experience

Students participating in this class will learn what anxiety is, how it affects the body and will participate in a take away grounding exercise to reference to following the end of the class. This grounding exercise will focus on the five senses. Students will identify things that they like to see, touch, taste, smell and hear that make them feel safe and happy. To start students will participate in a interactive game to encourage engagement and set a comfortable class setting. The class will involve a video clip that provides a snap visual overview describing anxiety and real life situations. FollowIng the video we will engage in a group discussion to articulate feelings in relation to anxiety. Students can use this time to comment on the video or share their own examples of things that create anxiety. We will then use creative art expression to provide a hands on experience of one of the many ways to manage anxiety. This is where we will participate in the grounding exercise. The class will end with participates setting a individual goal on how they will address anxiety going forward applying what they learned in class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello students and families. My name is Glacia Stewart and I am a Child and Youth Counsellor. I hold a bachelor degree in Child and Youth Care. I have over 20 years of experience working with a wide range of diverse families and youth with social, emotional and behavioural needs. I have a strong foundation of knowledge and skills related to mental health, social skills, grief, coping with separation/divorce, anxiety and stress. I am very much known for my creativity, organization, energetic and humourous personality. I am extremely passionate about the work I do and love seeing how engaged those I come in contact with can be. My ultimate goal is to sustain and strengthen the mental health and well being of those I teach. Through my creative lens I aim to allow others to use their talents and strengths to empower their leadership ability through a combination of hands on experiences, art, group discussion, team building games and activities to name a few.

I am a mother of 3 amazing children who keep me on my toes and keep me learning each day. I'm athletic and enjoy and play just about any sport. I so love ice cream cake and mango juice. Last but not least I love games. I embed games in just about all my lessons. It sets the tone for a fun, engaged, comfortable platform.
