Class Experience

This one-time class, one of ten Outschool classes I've created on leadership skills (each class works as a stand-alone), is designed to introduce the concept of compassion to children and in the process help them recognize how to apply compassion to their lives. For the purposes of the class, an act of compassion is defined as:
	- Doing something that helps someone feel better.

So to be truly compassionate, it is important to recognize when someone or something else is hurting.

To get started, I'll invite the students to tell true (and appropriate) kinds of suffering most of us have experienced. Even a skinned knee story is useful for this purpose. For example:
    - How did you skin your knee?
    - How did you feel?
    - Who helped?
    - What did they do?
    - How did that feel?

From there, I'll invite the students to tell stories about how they have reduced the suffering of others. The students will come to recognize that humans are really good at giving and receiving compassion and that doing so helps the one giving it feel good, too.

Like how a single-lit candle can light many others without diminishing its own strength, being compassionate creates more compassion in the world without taking anything away.

A NOTE ABOUT THE COST OF THIS CLASS:

I know the price of my classes is higher than many others on Outschool. As an experienced and talented educator, I believe I'm worth this amount and invite you to look at my reviews. That said, I don't want any family to be priced out of what I offer. Whatever your financial situation, if you're interested in one or more of my classes, please reach out and let me know what you can afford. I can provide coupons, refunds, and/or reductions, and am confident we can find an equitable rate that works for you and me.
