1 live meeting
55 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
After the introductions, students will be asked a couple of questions: Why are map reading skills still important? Do any of you know someone who still uses a map to navigate? The students will then look at a topographical map (to be provided as an attachment when you sign up for this class) and learn some basic features of a map including "contour lines, elevation, flat areas, steep areas, water, land, and more..." At the end of class, students will be guided through a scenario that will involve a group of people located somewhere on the map they were given in class. Together, the students must brainstorm strategies using the experience and knowledge from this class to find a solution to the scenario. All of my classes are hands on and there is always room to ask questions.
Learning Goals
This is an introduction to topographical maps where students will learn how to interpret elevation, contour lines, political boundaries, colors, symbols, labels, and more.
