Class Experience

French language learners who have had at least one year of French will find this flexible class useful for reviewing grammar in a flexible format. Examples of students who might benefit are: high school or middle school students preparing for final exams, students who are taking a semester or quarter off from language learning, students who are struggling in their current level 1/2/3 French language classes, students who want to advance more quickly from their level 1 class, students who are self-motivated and want to learn French grammar on their own. The directions, explanations and questions will be in English in order to provide support to students who need help understanding French grammar. Students will find these grammar topics engaging with videos, games and activities to practice individually. They will have a chance to ask the teacher questions and the teacher will be able to check their progress through informal "game-like" assessments and give individual feedback. Students will be asked to respond to the teacher and others by video or by writing in the classroom. The topics will be as follows:

1) French Adjectives & the Verb Être: Understanding adjective agreement and learning about adjective placement using the BAGS rule.
Activities: Notes/Explanations with slide show, review and assessment with Quizlet and Kahoot.

2) French "ER verbs": Understanding how to conjugate a verb and practice talking about what themselves and others are doing in the present tense. Activities: Notes/explanations with slide show, review and assessment with Conjuguemos & Quizizz Games.

3) The Verb Avoir: Learning to use the verb avoir to say what people have as well as use idiomatic expressions with avoir. Use possessive adjectives to say what things people do and don't have.
Activities: Notes/Explanations with slide show, review and assessment with Quizlet & Boom Cards Kahoot.

4) The Verb Faire: Understanding how to use the verb faire to talk about different hobbies in different seasons and weather. Activities: practice conjugations of faire, expressions of faire, seasons and weather. Demonstrate knowledge with a "book project" or slide show.

5) The Partitive & Food Preferences: Be able to talk about what you and others are eating and drinking and review the correct way to use definite, indefinite and partitive articles.

6) The Verb Aller & the Near Future: Be able to say where people are going using aller and places in the city as well as what they are going to do using the futur proche. Activities: Notes/Practice questions with slide show. Activities: Quizlet for places and Quizz game for grammar review.

**Each Monday, students will receive a new lesson with activities. They will have a week to work through all of the notes, exercises and questions. This can all be done on their own time. If they choose to spread the work out throughout the week or look at the activities only one day- whatever works best for a learner's schedule!
