This class is structured so that the students have time to be as creative and expansive as they want to be with their drawing! Some wildly creative or detail-oriented students may want to join camp more than once to complete their world. During class, students can "chat" as they draw. And, I will be checking in with each student throughout class to discuss and/or show what they're working on at that moment if they want to share (for instance, a student may say "I'm drawing a ladybug family watching TV in their living room")! I will screen share my underground world throughout class for inspiration. This is how camp will work: Day 1: • Students will be shown an example of an underground world drawing for inspiration and direction • Students will brainstorm with me and decide who they want their underground world residents to be (e.g., worms, beetles, ants, unicorns) • Students will draw "portraits" of at least four residents (e.g., a family of four, the mayor, a teacher, a librarian, a café chef, a bowling team) • Students will draw a base pencil composition of the world "above ground" and the entry point to the world "underground" Day 2: • Students will let their imaginations loose, and they begin pencil drawings of their underground world! • Students will draw at their own pace to fill in their underground world NOTE: Some students will spend more time building their world to the point where they may add on a page or more to their base composition! Day 3: • Students who have completed their base pencil composition will move on to coloring their underground world • Students who may still be filling out their world will continue with their pencil composition. BOTH ARE OKAY! Day 4: • Students may start or finish coloring their underground world while some may just be finishing up their base composition, WHICH IS OKAY • Students (who want to) will share with the class where they are with their underground world—whether still in the pencil composition stage or finished! • All students will receive a "Camp Underground Art" certificate

Teacher expertise and credentials
I've taught this lesson in live art classes with great success. Some students will work more quickly than others, some will expand their project beyond a single page and tape multiple pieces of paper together. All are encouraged to work at their own pace and to take the project as far as they like!
