Uncover The Mystery Pictures -Number Sense Ongoing Class

In this ongoing class, students will be involved in number sense activities using a blank hundreds chart.  Specific skills will be practiced by the teacher giving math clues, for example, "10 more than 43."  Students will then find the corresponding number and color in the box.  After about 15-20 clues a picture will be revealed.  The goal will be to complete 2 pictures per class. This class is perfect for any 1st or 2nd grader needing to improve their number sense.  

Skills reviewed in each class:
- numbers before, after, and in-between
- odd and even
- ten more, ten less
- two more, two less
- five more, five less
- __ more than,  __ less than
- place value: ones, tens, hundreds - recognizing a digit and the place value position it is in
- basic addition and subtraction facts

Examples of pictures created in this ongoing class might include:  smiley face, robot, kid, car, heart, boat, house, kite, butterfly, and various words spelled out. The first picture we will do in class will take longer and be one that requires students to use specific colors for certain numbers.  The last picture we will do will be faster to complete, using only 1 color.
