Do you ever wish you could jump through time, have super strength, or talk to the dead? Do you think you have what it takes to stop the apocalypse? Maybe you have a sudden craving for donuts. If so, you must love the hit science/historical fiction series Umbrella Academy! In this class, we'll chat it up about our favorite seven supernatural siblings, followed by a fun trivia game. After our class, receive some fun Umbrella Academy inspired recipes (including how to make a Griddy's Doughnut)...
I have been a guest lecturer for high school students in the tri-state area on the subjects of science fiction, paleontology, zoology, writing, and drama. My lectures include a discussion portion in which I both lead and participate in discussions about a multitude of subjects relating to the lecture. I directed high school students in original plays in New Jersey that they had written and created. We would heavily discuss story, plot, character motives, and communicating to fellow actors and the audience. I trained high school-aged volunteers, interns, and employees of Liberty Science Center (an interactive museum) in public speaking and science demonstrations. I have been an avid sci-fi geek/enthusiast my whole life, and am always thrilled to share my excitement and perspectives on the genre. I am also always happy to hear what other science fiction fans have to add to the discussion.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
All materials that I will present are family friendly. However, the show is rated TV-14 and students may choose to converse about anything related to the series in an open, respectful manner.
You do not have to have seen the whole series to enjoy the class, though it is strongly encouraged if you want to avoid plot spoilers.
