In this class we will learn basic ukulele chords and discuss techniques for writing lyrics and structuring a song. It is geared towards students that have either not studied ukulele before or only have a very basic knowledge of the instrument. This course has two main goals: 1. Develop skills in writing and structuring song lyrics 2. Develop comfort with the starter ukulele chords Each class we will use a lyric template that will rotate around 5 different writing themes each week. Weekly themes will include: Week of April 11-17: Celebration songs (Upbeat song for a special day or event) Week of April 18-24: Informational Songs (Songs about topics you learn in school) Week of April 25-01 : Songs of Remembrance (Songs about growing older and remember the past) Week of May 02-08: Songs about Me (Songs about self expression) Week of May 09-15 Journey songs (Tells a story or imaginative tale) This is an ongoing class so none of the classes will require students to know information from previous classes. This means anyone can join in at anytime. Since the information is not cumulative first time students will be able to quickly fit right with everything we do. On the other hand students that have attended multiple classes will have plenty of opportunity to develop their skills and stretch the limits of their own creativity.

I am a certified music teacher who has taught band, orchestra, and general music over the past 5 years. I received my Bachelors in Music Education from the University of Delaware. I am excited to bring my music lessons to you in Outschool!!
