Ukulele Fingerpicking 101: Beginners Crash Course *No Chords* -Small Class Size- (Ages 8-13)
What's included
1 live meeting
55 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one-time class for absolute beginners to the fingerpicking method, we will begin with an interactive lecture about learning correct terms (counting frets, reading notations, etc.), identifying the different parts of our instruments (strings, body, bridge, fret board, neck, etc.). After that we will move on to learning how to fingerpick the ukulele strings to create melodies, and end our class by playing 3 or 4 simple songs that students can "take home" to practice on their own (copies of the songs will be provided after the lesson). Students will be given personalized pointers and practicing tips to make their learning experience more profitable in the long term. It is my goal to make the learning process fun, and encourage students to sing and participate by allowing each member to take turns responding to questions, and with fingerpicking/playing their instrument at appropriate times during the lesson. Music is supposed to be enjoyable, and learning is easier when students are having fun. I look forward to singing and sharing some tunes with you soon! **NOTE: Please ensure that the student comes to class with their instrument tuned. It is imperative that the student has a freshly tuned instrument before practicing or attending the lesson in order to ensure maximum instructional effectiveness and new skill retention.**

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have experience teaching students ranging from grade school ages into adulthood, tutoring 1-on-1, and teaching large groups. I was a language and art/music teacher in Europe for about a year, while traveling around Europe and the UK, where students came to learn English and study various topics through theatre and play activities. In the past, I've also taught kindergarten through 5th grade students in a US public school, and I taught ESL online for nearly 3 years as a certified teacher.
I graduated in 2017 from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts. I am currently studying front-end web design while working as a private tutor and website creator. In my free time, I enjoy playing music on my ukulele, travel photography, and baking. I have a passion for all forms of art and the creative process that comes with it.
Whatever my current situation may be, I feel motivated to empower young students to realize their academic and creative potential through meaningful play and personal mentorship. I am looking forward to creating fun and productive courses through Outschool and I look forward to seeing you in my classroom soon!
