1 hour per week. There will not be assigned homework. Each learner will be encouraged to practice and play a song for their friends and family.Assessment
The learner will be assessed through informal assessment/observation.Class Experience
In this class, you will learn four basic ukulele chords - A, Am, A7, and D and how to play the songs like “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and "Shortnin' Bread". This class is in addition to four others I offer – Beginning Ukulele Class 1 (chords C, G, and F) and Beginning Ukulele Class 3 - Strumming Patterns, Beginning Ukuele Class 4 - A Follow Up, and Beginning Ukuele Class 5 - Chords G7, Gm, D7, and Dm. For easier learning, it is best if this class is taken after Beginning Ukulele Class 1 because the songs in this class will incorporate songs from classes 1 AND 2 (C,G,F,C7,A,Am,A7, and D). For this class, you will need a ukulele that is already tuned. Even if you have never played before, you can join this class to get some basics that will help you be well on your way to playing simple songs. I will model each chord and give students opportunity to practice each one before we move into using the chords to play the song together.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of playing the ukulele using four basic easy-to-play chords.

Hello, Everyone!
My name is Mrs. Engelbrecht (Eng-el-brekt), or you can call me Mrs. E or Becca. I really enjoy my job - teaching children to love reading, writing, and the arts through fun and imagination.
I am certified in all subject areas in Florida, USA (grades 1-6), but my favorite areas to teach are reading, writing, and the arts. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University and a Master's Degree in Publishing from Napier University in Scotland, UK.
In my classes, I seek to help everyone feel important in their unique skills. Communication and appreciation in sharing our uniqueness with each other are important. Every child can read, write, and be artistic in their own unique way.
A little bit about me: I have taught elementary school for 20 years. I taught preschool for one year in Edinburgh, Scotland where I lived for four years and met my South African husband who was serving in the Royal Scots Army. I have two sons, aged 15 and 11. I have self-published 6 children's books. I have been singing and playing music with various instruments since I was 4 years old. In my free time, I enjoy singing; playing my ukulele; writing songs, poetry, and books; drawing; watercolor painting; and going on camping adventures with my family.
